"Fusion of Photogrammetry and Laserscanning for Cultural Heritage

Objects"

Prof. Dr.-Ing. habil. Dr. h.c. Thomas Luhmann

On occasion of a measurement campaign in Tbilisi (Georgia) for recording and modelling of ancient churches, two terrestrial laser scanners, several UAV flights and two terrestrial DSLR image sets have been combined to create high-resolution and accurate 3D models. The investigation compares the quality of point clouds derived from the different sensor systems and two structure-from-motion approaches (SfM) with respect to completeness and geometric quality. It can be demonstrated that the simultaneous processing of laser scan data with SfM leads to the highest quality in 3D modelling.
