"Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for Smart Sustainable Cities"

Increasing environmental awareness and concern, urbanization and technological development have together resulted in an urgent need and opportunity to rethink how we construct and manage our cities. Over the last decades, these interlinked issues developments have started to converge under the new heading of Smart Sustainable Cities.

As the goals for moving towards increased smartness and sustainability differ between cities, based on their economic power or/and population growth etc, cities are encouraged to use an internationally standardized Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) before they embark on their SSC journey. In this workshop, at first we will talk about the history of Smart Sustainable Cities and the changes which led to emersion of this concept. After that, we will talk about the actions which ITU (International Telecommunication Union) has done in domain of SSC to encourage the use of ICTs to facilitate and ease the transition to smart sustainable cities. Finally, we will talk about the mentioned KPIs which were developed to establish the criteria to assess the smartness and sustainability of a city.
